Benchtop spray dryer for drug discovery

During drug discovery and formulation development, producing spray-dried powders efficiently and safely is crucial. Challenges include handling both aqueous and organic solvents, maintaining a controlled environment, and ensuring portability for versatile applications in various lab settings.

Efficiently dry powders at the benchtop scale

The GSD-LAB Micro GENESIS™ by Freund is a benchtop spray dryer designed for the rapid development of spray-dried powders during drug discovery and substance feasibility studies. This system supports open loop operation for both aqueous and organic solvents, making it suitable for use under a hood or inside an isolator. Fully self-contained, it includes a stainless steel drying chamber, atomizing nozzle, cyclone, product collection container, and an optional exhaust HEPA filter, all integrated into a portable unit. The dryer features a 2-fluid atomizing nozzle and an integrated peristaltic pump system to ensure consistent spray rates. It offers validatable process control, with parameters such as inlet airflow and temperature, spray rate, and delivery amount accessible via a color touchscreen control system. Additionally, the system can record data through a USB port. The system supports an evaporation capacity of 0.5 kg/hr (based on water at 210°C inlet / 80°C outlet) and conforms to CE, ATEX, UL, NFPA, and CSA standards, making it a versatile and reliable solution for laboratory-scale spray drying.
