Planetary ball mill for high throughput grinding

For researchers and lab technicians handling tasks such as mechanosynthesis or ultrafine colloidal grinding, achieving reproducibility and efficiency is essential. Traditional grinding methods often fall short when dealing with hard, brittle, or fibrous materials that require precise and high-energy pulverization.

Achieve reproducible results with high pulverization energy

The Planetary Ball Mill PM 400 by RETSCH is designed for high throughput applications, featuring four grinding stations that can process up to eight samples simultaneously. It harnesses extremely high centrifugal forces to deliver very high pulverization energy and short grinding times. The machine is ideally suited for tasks in mechanochemistry, ultrafine grinding down to nanometer scale, and routine sample preparation. It offers a variable speed range from 30 to 400 rpm, a maximum feed size of 10 mm, and a final fineness down to 0.1 µm. The PM 400 supports both dry and wet grinding and comes with safety features like the Safety Slider to prevent operation without securely clamped jars. It is available in a special “MA” version for mechanical alloying tasks requiring higher energy input. Suitable for long-term trials, the system includes storable standard operating procedures (SOPs) and automatic grinding chamber ventilation.
