Open type heat pumps for industrial heat recovery

In the context of ammonia refrigeration systems, there’s a need to effectively recover waste heat to enhance overall energy efficiency. This requirement is especially relevant in scenarios where reducing operational costs and improving sustainability metrics are paramount.

Recover waste heat from ammonia refrigeration systems

The GEA open type heat pumps are designed to extract heat from ammonia refrigeration plants effectively. The system operates by cooling hot gas in an open gas cooler vessel, which minimizes superheat and pressure drop, optimizing conditions for efficient booster heat pump operation. Equipped with GEA Grasso compressors (5 HP, V HP, or V XHP models), these pumps offer a range of configurations for enhanced efficiency. The desuperheater option allows for high supply temperatures up to +95°C, depending on the compressor model. With a capacity range from 300 kW to 3,500 kW, and a maximum design pressure of 50 bar, these heat pumps feature highly efficient oil separators, ensuring minimal oil carry-over. Additionally, the system supports natural refrigerant ammonia (R717) and offers various plate materials tailored to specific media requirements. These heat pumps are ideal for applications requiring high-efficiency heat recovery with superior part-load performance.

Benefits

  • High heat recovery efficiency
  • Wide range of heating capacities
  • Minimal oil carry-over (less than 5 ppm)
  • High supply temperatures achievable
  • Supports natural refrigerant (ammonia, R717)
