Plug & play water to hydrogen generator

One of the highest volume industrial gases, hydrogen serves a wide range of applications that use its unique chemical and physical properties. However, since hydrogen is a highly hazardous material, its storage and supply are highly regulated. The storage of large amounts of hydrogen requires a lot of site space as well. For flat glass and metal manufacturers who need a safe, reliable, and continuous supply of pure hydrogen in large quantities, this can be extremely costly.

Increase the reliability of hydrogen supply

Decentralized hydrogen production results in a more reliable, cost-effective, and safer alternative to traditional hydrogen supply by tube trailers. For this reason, HyGear has designed Hy.GEN-E on-site hydrogen generation systems varying from 1000 Nm3/h down to 10 Nm3/h, making them highly suitable for hydrogen filling stations and industrial sites.

The Hy.GEN-E on-site hydrogen generation system uses Steam Methane Reforming and alkaline electrolysis to convert natural gas into hydrogen. The system works by first feeding pre-treated water into the lye tank, and sending it to the electrolyzer. The electrolyzer then uses electric power to split water into oxygen and hydrogen gas. Lastly, oxygen and hydrogen gas enter the oxygen separator and hydrogen separator, respectively, where the lye pump separates the lye from the gases and recycles it back into the electrolyzer.

Using a specially designed material and bipolar pressurization technology, the electrolyzer prevents leakage during operation. This results in higher system efficiency reduced maintenance costs and longer life.

It’s further designed with Temperature Swing Adsorption technology, enabling it to operate under a 15 bar(g) pressure without the use of a compressor. The TSA is also designed with three hydrogen adsorbers to ensure continuous and steady removal of moisture from recirculated hydrogen. Lastly, a special activation process in the electrolyzer ensures higher efficiency with relatively lower power consumption.

These systems are containerized to reduce the floor space needed, making them ideal for flat glass industries, metal industries, chemical industries, food industries, and semiconductor industries.
