Melt crystallization for high purity chemical products

In chemical manufacturing, achieving high purity in products such as specialty chemicals or pharmaceuticals often requires critical separation techniques. Traditional methods like distillation may fail when dealing with close boiling points or heat-sensitive compounds, necessitating alternative approaches.

Achieve high purity with low energy consumption

The GEA melt crystallizers are specialized systems for operations requiring high purity products. Utilizing a suspension-based process, these crystallizers enable slow growth rates for pure crystal formation, even in impure melts. The crystals are cooled in scraped surface crystallizers, which can be either exchanger or vessel type, depending on the application. The mother liquor, rich in impurities, is effectively removed using wash columns, where pure crystals are separated, washed, and melted into a high-purity product. Essential for processes with components having close boiling points or those difficult to distill, the system operates continuously and maintains low operational temperatures. Energy consumption is significantly reduced, requiring two to four times less heat than conventional evaporation methods. With no need for solvents, the crystallizers eliminate the need for solvent recovery and associated waste byproducts.
