Cone calorimeter for fire testing and safety engineering

In fire safety engineering, understanding the reaction of materials to fire is crucial. This involves assessing flammability, heat release rates, and smoke production. Accurate measurements are essential to predict fire hazard potential and to develop safer, fire-resistant materials.

Measures heat release rate and smoke density

The TCC 918 by Netzsch is a cone calorimeter designed for fire testing and safety engineering, compliant with ISO 5660-1 and other established standards. This instrument places a test specimen in its load cell, exposing it to controlled irradiance to ignite and burn the material. It then analyzes combustion gases and measures smoke density using the oxygen consumption principle. Equipped with the robust Siemens ULTRAMAT/OXYMAT 6E gas analyzer, it detects CO, CO2, and O2, enhancing accuracy by analyzing gas concentrations. The system includes a high-precision Sartorius balance, a laser photometric beam for smoke measurement, and an effective Peltier device for gas cooling and drying. The integrated computer system with dual touch panels eliminates the need for additional PCs, offering user-friendly parameter definition and visualization.

Benefits

  • Compliant with ISO 5660-1 and multiple ASTM standards
  • Accurate measurement of CO, CO2, and O2 concentrations
