Root crop submersion system
In food processing industries, handling root crops like potatoes and carrots often necessitates precise, controlled submersion in water for various treatments. This ensures uniform contact time for treatments, improving the final product quality without damaging the produce.
Control dwell times for uniform water contact
The Dipping Tank DT from Sormac is designed for the submersion of root crops to ensure controlled water contact. It features a rotating drum with eight compartments, each holding approximately 25 kg of product. This drum is placed inside a stainless steel tank with a capacity of about 1,400 liters. The drum’s rotation can be adjusted to control dwell times from 1 to 5 minutes, making it suitable for both floating and non-floating products. Continuous loading and contra-rotating compartments ensure submersion of the produce below the water surface until discharge on the opposite side of infeed. The construction is entirely stainless steel, featuring a drain valve and manhole openings for easy cleaning. Depending on the dwell time, the system can process between 1,000 and 5,000 kg of product per hour. Options for frequency control are available, and it pairs effectively with other equipment like knife peelers and transport conveyors.
