Lactose crystallizing evaporator
In the dairy industry, traditional lactose manufacturing processes require extensive batch cooling to achieve crystallization. This can lead to process variability and lower lactose yields, making it challenging to optimize production efficiency and product quality.

Control crystal growth during evaporation
The CrystaLac™ Crystallizing Evaporator by Kovalus Separation Solutions is engineered to manage crystal growth by recirculating a super-saturated lactose solution during the evaporation phase. This advanced technique enhances final lactose yield and minimizes process variability, making it particularly efficient for lactose drying systems. Unlike conventional methods where crystallization starts during batch cooling, the CrystaLac™ process initiates crystallization during evaporation. The stable crystallization process ensures better control over crystal size, and the concentrated slurry is classified by size before further processing. Designed to minimize fouling on heat transfer surfaces, the system enables longer production runs and reduces the need for frequent cleaning. The evaporator can be paired with vapor recompression technology to boost energy efficiency.
