Converter gas cleaning and recovery system

In steelmaking, large amounts of CO-laden gases are produced during the conversion of hot metal to steel. If not properly managed, these gases can lead to significant energy waste and pollution, creating both environmental and operational challenges.

Optimize gas recovery and emission control

The Converter Gas Cleaning and Recovery System by GEA captures and processes CO-laden gases generated during steel production. Utilizing the LT-Steel Gas Process, this technology incorporates a cylindrical-type electrostatic precipitator for efficient dry dust removal and a movable skirt to prevent false air ingress. The system employs a waste gas cooling stack to produce steam, a gas conditioning tower for temperature regulation, and an axial flow fan downstream of the precipitator. The switchover station redirects gases containing sufficient CO to the recovery system, where a gas cooler ensures safe storage. This integrated approach minimizes energy consumption, eliminates wastewater or sludge treatment, and achieves low dust content in the cleaned gas.

Benefits

  • High steam and gas recovery rate
  • Minimized energy consumption
  • No wastewater or sludge treatment
  • Effective dust removal through electrostatic precipitator
  • Reduced environmental impact
