Which type of CBD oil could you make?
Several studies show that almost 62 percent of consumers use CBD to treat medical conditions, like pain, anxiety, and depression. In pharma, CBD products come in different shapes and sizes from capsules to oral sprays. However, the use of CBD has also been increasing in fields other than pharmaceuticals where products like creams, face masks and even gummies or chocolate bars have popped up on the market. These products make use of different types of CBD oils. But what differs one oil from the other?
Three CBD oil varieties to discern
You should know that there are three types of CBD oils that differ by their contents: full spectrum, broad spectrum and isolate. Full Spectrum means that all-natural compounds of the hemp plant are present in the extract, including THC, and work in synergy creating the entourage effect. The legal requirement for THC content is up to 0.3 percent in the US and EU. This low quantity of THC doesn’t cause a high. The purest form of CBD oil is CBD Isolate because it contains only CBD. In this case the CBD is filtered out and other chemical compounds are completely removed. In the middle ground between the full-spectrum and the isolate, there is Broad Spectrum CBD oil. It has all the cannabinoids and the other chemical compounds except THC, which is removed after the extraction process.
How to get these three different CBD oils?
Ethanol extraction is a very good choice for those who want to produce a full-spectrum extract. All the natural occurring components of the hemp plant stay intact after the extraction process because the oil is minimally filtered. After extracting, refining, and distilling the oil, CBD isolate and broad-spectrum CBD oil are made by chromatography. This technique is used to separate THC from the rest (broad-spectrum) or to isolate cannabinoids (CBD isolate) via molecular structure. In a column, the extract is dissolved in a fluid that is passed through a filter (sand). Molecules of the different compounds travel at different speeds through this filter – small molecules travel faster than big ones; this principle can be used to separate different compounds or to capture a specific one – THC for example. To obtain a 99 percent purified CBD for CBD isolate, this process must be repeated several times. After the purification process, crystallization can take place as CBD crystals are the most popular form of CBD isolate nowadays. Click here to discover more about CBD oil.
