Pharmaceutical low shear extruder

In the pharmaceutical industry, the need for gentle product handling during the extrusion process is critical. Sensitive ingredients can degrade with high temperatures or shear forces, causing issues with product uniformity and effectiveness.

Ensures consistency with low shear and low temperature

The NICA Extruder by GEA is a low shear extruder designed for delicate product handling, maintaining low temperatures throughout the process. The system features a radial basket-type design with two rotors — the feeder and the impeller — that work together to distribute and compress the wet mass into an extrudable paste. The NICA Extruder is available in three sizes: E100, E140, and E220, each suited for different scales of production ranging from research and development to full-scale manufacturing. With throughputs from 0.1 kg/min up to 8 kg/min, it offers flexibility for both batch and continuous operations. This extruder’s patented design ensures minimal temperature rise, consistent wet mass compression, and reproducible product density. Multiple screen and impeller options allow for customization to specific product requirements. The compact design, combined with ease of dismantling and cleaning, makes it a practical choice for pharmaceutical applications.
