Industrial fermentation separator with nozzle bowl
In industrial fermentation processes, efficiently separating micro-organisms with high cell content, both with and without solid impurities, presents a significant challenge. Variations in feed concentration further complicate the process, requiring specialized equipment for consistent and reliable separation.
Efficiently separate micro-organisms with high cell content
The Alfa Laval FEQX is a nozzle bowl separator designed specifically for industrial fermentation applications. It is tailored for separating micro-organisms with high cell content and can handle feeds both with and without solid impurities. This separator features peripheral nozzles that discharge yeast at the bowl periphery, and it compensates for fluctuations in feed concentration by recirculating a portion of the concentrated solids back into the bowl. The feed, containing both liquids and solids, is introduced from the top, accelerated by a distributor, and then passes through a disc stack where separation occurs. The light phase is directed to the center and pumped out under pressure, while the yeast is continuously discharged, preventing solids build-up.
Benefits
- Handles high cell content efficiently
- Manages variations in feed concentration
- Prevents solids build-up with continuous discharge
- Can process feeds with or without solid impurities
- Customizable to various sizes and configurations
