Autonomous mobile robot for flexible production
In modern manufacturing environments, processes are dynamic and often require adaptable technology to keep up with changes. Addressing the challenge of efficient, safe, and flexible material handling is critical in optimizing production lines and reducing downtime.

Autonomous navigation for flexible material handling
The KMR iiwa from KUKA combines the sensitivity of the LBR iiwa lightweight robot with a mobile, autonomous platform. It operates independently without the need for safety fencing due to its seven joint torque sensors and laser scanners, which ensure safe human-robot collaboration. The platform moves omnidirectionally with Mecanum wheels, allowing precise positioning even in tight spaces. Equipped with KUKA.NavigationSolution, it reliably navigates and avoids obstacles using real-time map data generated from safety laser scanners and wheel sensors. The system is powered by Li-ion batteries, which support both the vehicle and robot, and is controlled via the user-friendly KUKA Sunrise.OS and Sunrise controller.
Benefits
- Safe operation in shared environments
- Highly flexible and mobile platform
- Precise positioning accuracy up to +/- 5 mm
- Autonomous navigation with real-time obstacle avoidance
