As a manufacturer of medical device, the packaging is a critical factor in preventing the product from damage. Conducting forming and sealing of blisters in the same tool and in the same work cycle, decreases the chances of product contamination as well as saves time.

Forming and sealing blister packaging in the same cycle

The Universal by Tommy Nielsen is a semi-automatic blister packaging machine that can form and seal the blister in the same cycle. It is suitable for consumer products, medical device, hardware pieces, stationery products, and pharmaceutical products like syringes, tablets, and capsules etc.

Plastic film, PVC, PETG, or APET cut or punched to size are placed into the combined forming/sealing tool. The blister is thermos formed in mold, the product placed into the blister and then sealed together with the lid (TYVEK, Sterile paper, cardboard, aluminum or plastic) – all in the same cycle.

Depending on the model, the machine can handle packaging sizes up to 1.500mm. With the Universal 301-FS, the 301-FSX and the larger Universal 501-FS and 501-FSX it is possible to obtain a high level of flexibility. The machines are suitable for packaging jobs varying from a few packings up to 500.000 pcs./year based on 1600 hours. Normally you can form/seal 300-600 pcs. per hour – some times more. It all depends on the size, the complexity and the number of items per blister.

It is necessary to protect products from contaminants such as moisture or oxygen in the packaging.

Manual blister filling for small and medium sized production runs

The Minipharma by Tommy Nielsen combines the forming of the blister with the sealing in one machine for minimal exposure to external influences. It’s designed to automatically form and seal blisters for packaging of medical products and as a standard produces plastic/aluminum, plastic /TYVEK, plastic /sterile paper blister packaging or if desired, alu/alu blister packaging. Blisters and lidding material are formed and sealed from roll stock material and the formed and sealed packages are punched free of excess material. The machine has a forming and sealing station and can be issued with automatic filling equipment as well as printing equipment for printing batch numbers.

The machine is designed to produce small and medium sized production runs with manual filling of the blisters. The filling area length and the filling height can be adjusted according to demands. The machine can produce up to 1.800 blisters per hours.

MiniPharma150 is a simple and reliable machine which is very easy to operate and to maintain. Due to the favourable small dimensions of the machine, tool change can be carried out within a few minutes.

Quick heat sealing for small batches

The semi-automatic Labsealer by Tommy Nielsen minimises floor space as it is a very compact machine that is used for small batches production. The Labsealer can easily fit into laminar flow cabinet or onto your desk. It is perfect to use on small IOL products like lenses.

The machine is handled by an operator that slide the tray with a x inch blister depth in one of the two shuttle seal stations. Once the shuttle enters the machine, it starts the sealing process by clamping down the product. Within seconds, the sealing is finished and the operator can take out the sealed tray.

When medical items are produced, packaging needs to have protective factors to exclude contamination of pharmaceutical products.

Flexible forming with vacuum for blister packaging

The Uniline by Tommy Nielsen is a fully automatic blister packing machine that both forms and seals. The machine forms blisters from roll stock. Forming can either be done positively with vacuum, negative with vacuum and compressed air or vacuum with plug assist. After the forming process, blisters are automatically cut and placed in sealed trays. Pre-printed and pre-cut cards are loaded into magazines from where these cards are automatically placed on top of the filled blister and sealed. The heating of the foil (PVC, PET, or PS) is obtained using thermostatic control.

The machine uses the whole width of the foil, which eliminates waste. The standard length of the lading section is 1500 mm. The maximum forming and sealing area is 200 x 400 mm or 200 x 600. The machine offers a variety of forming programs, and the blister length can be easily varied.

Fast cold form blister packaging for small batches

The Alu250 by Tommy Nielsen is designed to work for R&D and smaller pharmaceutical batches or in laboratories. During blister production, pieces of foil – possibly already cut to the required shape – are placed on the blister-forming tool. The machine is then activated and the blister formed. Afterwards, the Alu-blisters can be sealed using a separate sealing machine – Universal S, FS or FSX.

The machine can make up to 1200 items per hour, depending on the blisters design.
