Rail wheel force measuring system for safety compliance

Ensuring the safety and reliability of rail vehicles before they enter service can challenge engineering teams. Testing must comply with strict standards like DIN 14363, requiring precise measurement and analysis of forces, loads, and running characteristics on dedicated test tracks.

Measures rail wheel forces and load distribution

The MULTIRAIL Wheel&GuideLoad by Schenck Process is a specialized rail vehicle testing system designed for precise measurement and analysis of wheel forces. It measures normal force (Q) and lateral force (Y) that occur during wheel/rail contact on a continuous test track with curves and torsional sections. The system exceeds DIN 14363 requirements, offering even greater safety. It records measurements within a speed range of 2 km/h to 10 km/h and communicates data via PC-compatible software, with optional data transfer to higher-level systems. This system helps engineers detect and correct issues such as wheel climb tendencies and misaligned wheelsets, ensuring the vehicle’s safe approval for service.

Benefits

  • Improves rail transport safety by preventing derailments
  • Ensures compliance with DIN 14363 standards
  • Provides precise measurements of Q and Y forces
  • Offers comprehensive analysis of running characteristics
  • Facilitates detection and correction of wheelset issues
